Instructional Guided Horseback Rides

At Wolcott Farms, we offer guided horseback riding experiences that are both enjoyable and educational for individuals, families, and groups of friends. Our rides are designed for all experience levels, from first-time riders to advanced equestrians. Each experience is led by one of our experienced equine professionals, who provide instruction on horse care, handling, safety, and basic horsemanship, giving guests a deeper understanding of the horse while enjoying the scenic beauty of Wyoming County from horseback.

Ride Options & Pricing:

  • 1.5 Hour Ride: $150 per person

Each experience begins with 45 minutes to one hour in the arena, where guests learn the fundamentals of riding, horse handling, and safety while building comfort, balance, and confidence with their horse. Arena time may include simple patterns and introductory obstacles designed to encourage trust, coordination, and a calm, positive riding experience. Riders then enjoy a 30–40 minute guided instructional ride through rolling hills and varied terrain. Following the ride, guests are welcome to return to the arena to practice, trot, and continue working through obstacles at their own pace.

            What to Expect

  • Beginner-Friendly Lesson Experience: Each ride begins with easy, step-by-step instruction in the arena, allowing riders to learn at a comfortable pace while building confidence, balance, and control. Advanced riders will also thoroughly enjoy this experience, as instruction is tailored to individual skill levels and offers the opportunity to refine technique, communication, and horsemanship. Our experienced equine professionals ensure every rider feels supported and challenged appropriately throughout the experience.

  • Age Requirement: Riders must be 8 years or older to go on the rides. Younger children are welcome to participate in arena-based lessons.

  • Weight Limit: For the comfort and safety of both our guests and horses, riders in the 250–275 lb range are kindly asked to let us know in advance. We’re fortunate to work with large, strong, and gentle draft horses, allowing us to thoughtfully pair each rider for a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience.

  • What to Wear: For your comfort and safety, please wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. No sandals or flip-flops, please.

  • Helmets: As required by New York State law, helmets must be worn while riding. We provide them for all riders.

  • Photos: You’re welcome to bring your phone or camera, as there are many scenic photo opportunities throughout your experience.

  • Wolcott Farms Country Shop: After your ride, step into our country shop featuring pure maple syrup, maple coffee, coffee mugs, maple creams and mustards, and a selection of all-natural, organic products sourced right here in Wyoming County. You’ll also find Wolcott Farms apparel and rustic novelties—perfect keepsakes to take a little piece of the farm home with you. Guests are also invited to take a look at our Sugar Shack, where we boil sap into rich, golden maple syrup.

Horse Drawn Wagon or Sleigh Ride

At Wolcott Farms, one of our favorite traditions is offering carriage and sleigh rides. Sleigh rides are offered during the winter months, and warm clothing is recommended. While our sleigh team typically works in the snow, Mother Nature doesn’t always cooperate—if conditions are not suitable for sleighing, your experience will be held in our horse-drawn carriage, ensuring your ride remains comfortable, elegant, and romantic. Nestled in the heart of Wyoming County, our farm is surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in Western New York. There’s truly no better way to take in the scenery than from a carriage or sleigh, pulled by a beautiful pair of large horses or a striking, gentle single horse. Available all year round, these rides are perfect for proposals, anniversaries, birthdays, special celebrations, bucket-list experiences, fun family outings, and romantic countryside adventures. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets to wrap up with, something cozy to sit on, and a phone or camera, as there are many beautiful moments worth capturing along the way. Guests are also welcome to enjoy a hot or cold beverage during the ride, depending on the season. Each ride lasts approximately 30 minutes, allowing you to unwind, take in the scenery, and enjoy every moment. Many guests choose to pair their ride with dinner at a local restaurant, creating a memorable ride-and-dinner evening.

Conveniently located just one hour from Buffalo and Rochester, Wolcott Farms makes an easy and scenic getaway without the long drive. Just 18 miles from Letchworth State Park, often called the “Grand Canyon of the East,” our farm is an ideal stop for visitors exploring the region and the natural beauty that runs throughout Wyoming County.

Extend your stay by booking our cozy cabin rental, perfect for couples seeking a peaceful overnight getaway or visitors wanting to turn their ride into a relaxing countryside escape.

The atmosphere at Wolcott Farms is truly one of a kind, and many guests choose our carriage or sleigh rides as the setting for engagement proposals, creating a moment your loved one will remember—and talk about—forever.

During the Christmas season in November and December, we also offer festive carriage and sleigh rides to Bird Haven Christmas Tree Farm, where guests can pick out the perfect Christmas tree from their 85-acre farm.
